Empowering Pupil Premium Students in Maths

Scholars Maths is dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible maths tuition that supports the academic growth of all students, including those receiving Pupil Premium funding. Discover how we can help your child thrive.

What is Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to help improve educational outcomes for pupils who may face barriers to learning. Schools receive this funding for children who meet certain eligibility criteria, including pupils who receive free school meals (or have done within the last six years), children who have been adopted from care or left care and some children from service families.

Schools decide how this funding is used and may choose to invest in additional educational support, interventions or tutoring where they feel it will benefit a child’s progress.

Tailored Support for Pupil Premium Students

At Scholars Maths, we understand that every child learns differently. We provide personalised online maths tuition designed to build confidence, strengthen core skills and support long-term progress in a positive and encouraging environment.

For pupils who may benefit from additional support, our tailored approach can include:

  • Individual learning plans based on each child's needs
  • Targeted support to address gaps in understanding
  • Confidence-building strategies and personalised encouragement
  • Flexible online lessons that fit around school and family life
  • Regular progress updates and clear communication

We work to create engaging and supportive learning experiences that help pupils develop both skills and self-belief in mathematics.

Easy Access for Pupil Premium Families

If you think your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium support, there may be opportunities to explore additional educational support through your child’s school.

We recommend:

  1. Speaking with your child’s school to confirm eligibility
  2. Asking whether additional educational support or tutoring options are available
  3. Contact Scholars Maths to discuss how our online maths tuition may support your child’s needs

Please note that Pupil Premium funding is allocated directly to schools, not parents. Decisions about how funding is used are made by individual schools, and any support for external tuition is entirely at their discretion.

We are always happy to speak with families and schools to explore possible support options and discuss individual learning needs.

Real Impact: Inspiring Success Stories

One example is a Year 7 student who joined Scholars Maths shortly after starting secondary school. They had lost confidence in maths during primary school and often felt anxious about answering questions in class. Because the lessons followed the same White Rose curriculum being taught in school, the student began to recognise methods and topics more clearly and no longer felt confused by different approaches. Over time, they became more confident participating in lessons, started completing homework independently, and eventually moved from working below expected level to meeting their school targets.

Another success story comes from my one-to-one tutoring. A Year 8 student began tuition after finding the transition into secondary school maths challenging. They often lacked confidence in lessons, avoided answering questions and felt overwhelmed when topics became more complex. Parents explained that homework had become increasingly difficult, and the student had started to believe they simply “weren’t good at maths.”

Through personalised one-to-one support, lessons focused on strengthening core understanding while rebuilding confidence. By breaking topics down into manageable steps and using clear explanations linked closely to what was being covered in school, the student gradually became more comfortable tackling unfamiliar questions. Over time, they became more willing to contribute in class, completed homework more independently and began approaching maths with a more positive attitude. By the end of the academic year, teachers and parents noticed a significant improvement in both confidence and attainment, with the student moving from working below expected level to achieving their school targets.

This experience reinforced the value of personalised support and became one of the key inspirations behind  Scholars Maths Online Tuition — helping more students access encouraging, tailored maths teaching that builds both confidence and achievement.
